Why Alice Springs?
The Northern Territory has the lowest penetration of solar in Australia. Having been previously named a Solar City, Alice Springs is well placed to lead Australia to a renewable future.
The NT has been identified as one of the best places in the world to produce solar power. This is demonstrated through recent announcements, such as the Sun Cable Project. The company aims to install 10 Gigawatts of solar, plus batteries, in the Barkly and use HV/DC cable to deliver power to Singapore, Indonesia, South Australia and the East Coast.
Beyond Zero Emissions has also produced a “10 Gigawatt Vision”, and there is a lot of activity in the Territory looking at how we can become a leader in microgrid technology and a future Hydrogen economy.
Three organisations at the forefront of the NT energy transition are coming together to share this knowledge with the people of Central Australia. On Friday 19 July at the Desert Knowledge Precinct we are holding an information session commencing at 3:00pm. A range of speakers will talk about these exciting projects and give you the opportunity to be involved.
Alice Springs has been a leader in solar in Australia. The Intyalheme Centre for Future Technology will present its Alice Springs Future Grid Project, which involves partners from across Australia addressing the technological and regulatory barriers to further penetration of renewables in the Alice Springs Power System.
The 10 Gigawatt Vision Project by Beyond Zero Emissions will be delivered by video link and attendees will have the opportunity to join the SmartEnergy NT COOLmob Action Alliance to ensure the NT is ahead of the game.
We are forming four groups: Policy, Technical, Community Solar and the 10 Gigawatt Vision, to allow Territorians to be a part of this movement. It has been identified that over 10,000 jobs across the Territory could be created within the clean solar and hydrogen industries.
This meeting will be followed by a visit to the Solar Centre with drinks and nibbles.
